Images in this Abstracts Gallery do not necessarily try to replicate reality.  Instead they achieve their impact, or their appeal, by how the shapes, colors and lines work together. A good example of something real, which looks like an abstract – all lines, patterns and colors – is the image captioned “Frost on Window Pane.” While a good example of an abstraction is the image captioned “Rust and Dripping Paint on Metal” which is nothing more than old drippy paint on rusting metal which looks, abstractly, like a snow capped mountain, blue sky and brown vegetation!
